Barry Wanderers 1st XI vs Isca Crows 1st XI Barry traveled to Caerleon on a wet and windy day, hopeful of getting some cricket. The covers were on when they arrived and were not removed until fifteen minutes after the scheduled start, but play finally got under way. Skipper Stuart Jones won the toss and chose to field on a very wet surface. Neil Mantell returned to open the bowling and took a wicket in just his second over. Veteran Colin ‘Wrecker’ Rowlands made a rare first team appearance but took the new ball with relish and bowled superbly to take three very important wickets leaving Isca at 55-5 and reeling. For some reason, Barry didn’t choose to attack the late order, Jones and Ben Irons bowled very well but runs were found very easily and Isca eventually finished on 177-9 from their 45 overs, Gareth Lanagan keeping his ‘eye’ on the ball, but unfortunately dropped one on the boundary in the penultimate over. Barry’s reply was instant, with opener Gareth Lanagan thrashing any bad ball to the boundary and hitting his third successive league half century. Anthony Barratt fell and Ed Sherriff kept up the good work with a fine strike rate of at least 85%. Lanagan eventually fell for a ruthless 81, leaving Irons and Mantell to knock off the remaining runs, the Wanderers winning by 6 wickets and flying up the league table.
