Barry Wanderers 2nd XI vs Pentwyn 2nd XI On another bright sunny Saturday afternoon at Hayes point the wanderers 2 nd XI took on Pentwyn in there first league game of the season. With Captain Ellis winning the toss he decided to bat. Dave Smith on his welcome return to action opened the batting with Paul George but were both soon dismissed early on by young bowler Dexter, swiftly followed the pavilion by Swannick and Sanders, leaving the wanderers 37-4 off 18 overs. Ellis and Barnes consolidated the innings seeing off mike Daniels who bowled 12 overs for 10 runs. Barnes departed with the score on 81 in the 30 over. This brought in form Fenton to the crease who then took it upon himself to smash the Pentwyn attack all over the park hitting 9 fours and 5 sixes in an impressive career best innings of 79, Ellis also completed his second “pork Scratchy” fifty of the season. Some late lusty blows from Rowlands took the wanderers on to a satisfactory total of 239-7 off their 45 overs. Pentwyn reply started disastrously as Rowlands and Fenton knocked over the opening pair. Young Pheasant played a patient innings and with May and Payne making significant contribution of 42 and 72 the innings continued steadily. However with these two dismissed the result was a formality, with Swannick taking 3 quick wickets leaving Pentwyn to finish on 165-8 of the allotted 45 overs.
