Club Groundsman Tony Swannick has pulled the curtain down, not only on an illustrious playing career, but on his time as club Groundsman. Tony joined the club in 1990, through his son Paul, and in his time has been an integral part of Barry Wanderers. During his time, Tony has turned his hand to many roles in the club, his highlight being that Tony was the club captain in 1996, hence leading the club on to the hallow turf of the Nursery Ground at Lord's Cricket Club. He was also club captain in 1997 & 2000. Tony played 537 matches, scoring 8409 runs, taking 242 wickets and holding onto 118 catches. His playing highlight was scoring 1352 runs in a season; the third highest number of runs scored in a season in the Wanderers' history. The club will miss his all round displays on the field, and his endeavor off the field. Tony is helping the club to find its new Groundsman, and will be educating some club members on the intricacies of maintaining the Hayes Point wicket. On behalf of the club, we thank him for all his hard work, and we hope to see him down at Hayes Point soon as a spectator.
